Our journey

A history of standing with teachers

Since 2002, ZATU has grown into the recognised voice of Zanzibar\u2019s educators — uniting teachers and advocating for their rights and welfare.

Established 2002

The recognised teachers' union in Zanzibar

As a trade union, ZATU is committed to advocating for and protecting teachers' rights and welfare in order to facilitate the delivery of equitable and quality education for all.

From its establishment, the union has worked to organise teachers to join, while advocating for accessible quality education and improved working conditions for every teacher across Unguja and Pemba.
